Most sources show him as a son of William Linn and Elizabeth Stoops, but I believe he was their grandson. He married his cousin Rachel Maservy, daughter of Alpheus Maservy and Elmira Linn. His brother William married her sister Elmira.

 According to various records, they had children Charles A. 1874-1908; Bernie 1875-1947 m. Bertha May Linn; Velona Elisa 1877-1943 m. Frank Linn; Eva Almarinda 1879-1951 unmarried?; Clara Belle 1882-1967 m. Richard A. Linn; Fred B. 1887; and Emma A. 1892.
 In the 1880 census for Maine Prairie, Stearns Co., Minnesota, Francis Lynn is 30, farmer from KY (KY, KY); with wife Rachel 24 MN: and children Carles A. 6, (Benny?) 4; Velona E. 3; and Eva A. 1.
 In the 1900 census for Stearns Co., Minnesota, Francis Linn is 51 born Jan 1849 KY, (parents KY), farmer; with Rachel A. 44 born Aug 1855 MN (parents KY) with 7 of 8 children living; children are (Velona E.?) 22; Eva A. 21; Clara B. 18; Fred B. 13; Emma A. 8 -- all born MN -- and mother-in-law Elvira Maservy 76 born Feb 1823 KY (parents KY), widow, with 1 of 2 children living. Son 'Birney' is next door with wife & cousin Bertha.
 In the 1910 census, Rachel is listed as a widow with daughters Eva and Emma.
 Several of their children married cousins: Clara Belle m. Richard A. Linn; Bernie married Bertha May (d/o William E.); Velona Elisa m. Frank Linn (s/o Robert)
 Francis, Rachel, with children Eva Almarinda, Clara Belle, Velona, Charles and Bernie are all buried in Maine Prairie Cemetery in Stearns Co., {<findagrave.com>}
