Eleanor Marvin located a obituary on Alexander "Alex" Mingus from a Sturgi s, Michigan newspaper providing that he was 78 years old when he died on A ugust 28, 1928 in the afternoon in the home of his son Leslie Calvin (refe rred to as L.C.) Mingus in Nowata, Oklahoma. Alexander's body was sent h ome to 210 Center Avenue, Sturgis, Michigan for burial. Alexander had liv ed with his son, Charles, at 210 Center Avenue, for a number of years. A lexander had moved to Oklahoma for the winter to be with his son, L.C. Af ter suffering from a stroke in February of 1928, he had been in a Oklaho ma City hospital since March. The obituary went on to provide that Mr. Min gus had been born in Athens County, Ohio, in l852 and that he married Ma ry Rivers of Chauncey, Ohio on Dec. 7, l883. Alexander's wife preceded h im in death by nearly 30 years. Of six children born to the couple, five s urvived. Three of his four sons survived his death including: Charle s, Elmer, and L. C. Alexander's son, Forrest, died in l908. His two dau ghters, Nettie Pagels (of Sherman Township) and Garnet Jones (of Grand Rap ids), also survived him. The obituary went on to provide that two of Alexa nder's sisters, Alice Johnson (Chauncey, Ohio) and Rachel Douth (Chestervi lle, Ohio) were still alive at the time of this death. Services were he ld in the home of Charles Mingus and Rev. A. Miles officiated. Burial to ok place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis, Michigan.

On 11-24-1909, he died of lockjaw aft er he accidently shot himself in the foot. He is buried in Oaklawn Cemete ry, Sturgis, Michigan, beside his father, Alex."
