Florence attended Stevens College, Colombia, MO., Kansas State College, and graduated from Michigan Univeristy. She married ALO at Ann Arbor, MI and lived in Hutchinson, KS the rest of her life.

She was a member of PEO, Prosperity farm bureau unit, and the United Presbyterian Church.

Florence had tuberculosis early into her marriage with ALO, which greatly affected her three children, as she had to leave Charles and John under her daughter Ellen's care and enter a sanitorium for a number of years. Her daughter, Ellen, as the oldest, helped raise and care for her two younger brothers.

She lost her son Wallace -- a star athlete and class president -- at age 17, to pneumonia.

Florence went on to die of colon cancer at age 48, while her daughter Ellen was pregnant with her first child, William.
