Dr. Finley J. McRae

Dr. Finley J. McRae. a native of Brechin, Ontario, one of the best known physicians in his section of the state of Nebraska, died on Wednesday, January 19, at a Norfolk, Nebraska, hospital. He had been ill for about a year and spent several weeks in hospitals~ and last fail had made a trip to Mayo's Clinic at Rochester, N.Y. It was believed that be had overcome the infection which had developed in one of his feet and was on the way to recovery when he suddenly collapsed at his home, Albion, Nebraska.

Dr. McRae had made several professional calls Sunday and had returned home about two o'clock apparently all right. Mrs. McRae found him an hour or so later in the bathroom of their home unconscious. Dr. Jensen was called from Newman Grove, that evening. On Sunday Dr. Reeder of Cedar, Rapids was called and as Dr. McRae was still in a coma he was taken to a Norfo lk hospital. He did not recover consciousness and death came at two o'clock on Wednesday. The funeral service was held on Saturday morning, January 22, from St. Michael's church.

Dr. McRae had practiced in Albion, for 36 years or more and was widely known. He was a captain in the medical corps during the first world war, a nd served in Texan military hospitals Since his return he had been a general practitioner and still served the army as a medical examiner. The body was brought to Albion on Wednesday and lay in state until Saturday…

Finley Joseph McRae was born at Brechin, Ontario, on January 24, 1877, son of the late Alexander McRae and Sabina Gaughan and nephew of Patrick Gaughan of Brechin. He received his education at London, Canada, high-school, and the Assumption College... In 1896 graduated with high distinction at the Western University, London, Ontario, and took his M.D. in 1902. He did graduate work at Tulane University in 1919 -1922.

He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Keenar, on June 24. 1908, in N ew York City. In 1902-1907, he practiced medicine at Gibbon, in 1907 he pr acticed medicine in Albion. During the first World War he enlisted in t he U. S. Army and Medical corps in September, 1917, and was stationed at F ort Riley until July, 1918, and at Camp Logan in Houston, Texas, and was d ischarged in March, 1919. He was commissioned as captain. He was camp san itary inspector. surgeon of development battery, head surgeon of discharg ed battalion, head surgeon of a convalescent overseas squadron, a memb er of the American Legion post 162, four star member Boone county Medic al Society secretary, Nebraska State and A. M. A. director of Nebraska Tub erculosis Association, past president of Kiwanis club. Past Grand Knight a nd District Deputy of the Knights Of Columbus.
