Early on Tuesday morning, July 14, 1925, Mrs. Wellington Clarke of Milton, Wis., passed away from this life at Mercy hospital, Janesville.
Mrs. Clarke and her husband, who survives her, have lived for many years in the village of Milton, and have been well and favorably known by their many friends. Mrs. Clarke feel in their home on Madison avenue the second of last October, breaking her hip. Since that time she has been a patient in Mercy hospital.
Mrs. Clarke was a daughter of Ephraim and Angeline Crumb Clarke, and was born at Brookfield, N. Y., Dec. 22, 1838. In early life she moved with the family to Walworth, Wis. She was married Dec. 17, 1858 to George Edwin McPherson. The next year her husband died, prior to the birth of a son. The son was given his father's name, and he lived until 1922, and in that year he died in Janesville.
Her marriage to Wellington Clarke took place at Walworth, Dec. 12, 1861. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Clarke: Lenora Stella, who died at the age of 13 years; Martin Ephraim, who died at the age of 52; and Herman D., who survives and lives on a farm near Milton.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarke having established their home in Milton, in 1882 Mrs. Clarke established a membership in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church which she maintained the rest of her life. She lived to the ripe age of 86 years, 6 months and 22 days. While relatives and close friends are bowed in sorrow at her passing, we recognize a kind Providence in her soul's release from a frail, broken and painful body.
The funeral was held from the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church on Thursday afternoon, July 16, 1925, at 2 o'clock, and was conducted by Pastor James L. Skaggs. Interment was made in the Milton cemetery.
