Peoria Journal Star, The (IL) - December 13, 1995 Deceased Name: FERNE EMERY CANTON -- Ferne L. Emery, 89, of 135 W. Locust died at 4:27 a.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1995, at Graham Hospital Extended Care Unit.

Born Dec. 7, 1906, in Brereton to Ben A. and Lula May Jackson Turner, she married Leo H. Emery on Jan. 16, 1964, in Missouri. He died Nov. 15, 1986. Surviving are two brothers, Ben F. Turner of Canton and Ernest Turner of Kewanee; and several nieces and nephews. One brother and three sisters preceded her in death.

She graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb. She was a teacher in rural Fulton County schools for 16 years. She also worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid for 22 years, retiring in 1960. She was active with Fulton County Association for the Handicapped and was treasurer of Community Workshop Training Service for several years. She was active with an elderly nutrition program.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home. The Rev. Larry Campbell will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the memorial home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
