Farley Henkes, son of Will and Agnes Farley Henkes, was born January 9, 1906, on a farm in Monona Township. He died of pneumonia on January 3, 1985, at the Postvilie Community Hospital.

Farley was baptized by Rev. H. Haag of the Gooding Evangelical Church on May 16, 1907. In 1908 the family moved to Homewood Farm in Wagner Township. Farley attended Looby, Bismark, and Gooding rural schools. In 1923 he was a member of the first graduating class of a four-year Famersburg High School. He attended two winter terms at Iowa State.

Upon his father's death in 1927, Farley assumed full time management of the home farm. On June 3, 1932, Farley married Merlie Mae Hazlett in Elgin, IL. They were the parents of three children: Patricia, Rollie, and Polly.

In 1936 Farley and Merlie began a soil conservation program that won several state awards. They purchased an acreage on the west edge of Monona in 1961. They built a new home there and maintained a small feedlot operation. He had a strong interest in sports politics, and travel.
