Death claimed East Augusta's oldest resident Monday, when Mrs. Frances Arbogast, known to be 99 years old and thought to be well over the century mark, died at the home of her son, E. E. Arbogast, near Dooms. Mrs. Arbogast, who was a woman of unusual intellect, was conscious until 30 minutes before her death. She had not been in ill health of any consequences but suffered from the infirmities of age. She was born in Randolph county, Virginia (now West Virginia) on march 25th (exact year unknown) and came here about 25 years ago. A large family survives her including her son and a daughter, Mrs. W. R. Herron, 77, who also lived with her. The daughter says her mother was in her twenties when she was born. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning from Smyrna Chapel, the Rev. D. B. Garber of the Brethren Church officiating. Mrs. Arbogast was known to hundreds in this section and along the Eastside Valley and her recollections of early history and incidents of the middle 19th century has proved interesting to Augusta children during the past quarter of a century.
