Plane crashes, one dies By Cliff Sain BDN Staff Writer A small plane crashed in southeast Taney County Sunday, killing one and leaving another person with moderate injuries.

Fannie Lewis, 63, of Ava, died Sunday night at St. John's Hospital in Springfield after sustaining serious injuries. She was the passenger in a small Cessna aircraft which crashed Sunday afternoon near Protem.

The pilot, Greg Brightwell, 20, of Protem, was listed in fair condition at Cox South Hospital in Springfield as of Monday morning.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, they received a call about a possible plane crash at 5:11 p.m. They discovered the crash site on Five Brothers Road, near the Arkansas border.
