Ezra Thomas Ridgard was a son of the 1820 settler Ezra Ridgard who, together with his then small family, arrived in South Africa as members of Pringles settler party on board the ship Brilliant The son Ezra was born in Tarkastad (formerly known as Prospect) in the Eastern Cape.

Ezra Thoma was a diamond digger and farmer. Married twice. He died at age 74 years and 9 months in the house of his son Walter Ridgard. His Father Ezra Ridgard and sister Charlotte Caroline were witnesses at his marriage to Sarah Mitchley
