In West Edmeston, N. Y., July 3d, 1874, Mr. Ezra Coon, aged 78 years. Bro. Coon received a fall several weeks ago, which injured his brain, but the concussion did not disable him, nor was it deemed serious until a short time before his death. He rapidly sank into an unconscious stupor that lasted about three days, and from which he never awakened.
He was converted when nineteen years of age, and was baptized and received into the fellowship of the church by Eld. Henry Clarke, who was then pastor of the First Church in Brookfield. He was one of the first members of the church at West Edmeston, and through its long life he was faithful and exemplary. For several years he was connected with the Executive Board of the Tract Society, and was esteemed by his associates for his Christian work.
Wherever known he was respected for his quiet and upright course, and for the firmness of his principles and the soundness of his judgment. Kind in every relation, he will be missed by all, and especially by his own family circle. He was a supporter of the cause of Christ by his means as well as by his deeds, and in his home the company of the faithful are once more sorely afflicted and they pray for recruits that may take the whole armor and be true soldiers of God.
A large congregation assembled at his funeral, and thus indicated their respect for his character and their sympathy for the afflicted. J. B. C.
