Republican. Mayor of Waterville, Maine, 1918-19

"Everett C. Wardwell was unanimously nominated for mayor by the Republicans of the city at a general caucus held at the Armory Friday evening.... (In his nominating speech, Dr. L. G. Bunker said) This man that I believe is the man of the hour has had wide experience. He has been President of the Merchant's Retail Association, President of the Board of Trade, he has had wide experience in business and in city affairs. He has served the city as Alderman for two years, one year from Ward 3 and one year from Ward 4. It has been the lack of team work that has been the matter with the Democratic city government and let's get together and elect the other members, so that we can have a clean, straight, efficient city government. Mr. Wardwell was then called for and coming forward thanked the citizens present for the honor of the nomination to head the Republican city ticket. He said that it was pleasant to hear the nice things which his friends had said about him and mentioned a few things which he had in mind for the good of the city should he be elected. One of the things which Mr. Wardwell said that he had been thinking about was a municipal wood yard. He said that he recognized that the city was financially sick, but not sick unto death, and that the appropriations for the coming year should be very economic. Everett C. Wardwell, the Republican candidate for Mayor of Waterville, was born in Bucksport, the son of Albion and Mary (Hatch) Wardwell. His father died when he was five years old and although it was his ambition when he became a young man to become a physician, Mr. Wardwell when he was a boy of 15 was obliged to go to work for himself as his mother then became an invalid. Thus he is a self-made man. He worked in a dry goods store in Bucksport when a young man and then came to Newport where he went into the dry goods business with his brother Hubert. About 28 years ago he came to Waterville and bought out the Veazie store. For a time he was associated with H. I. Emery in the firm Wardwell, Emery & Co, but some years ago the firm was dissolved and he has since conducted a business of his own. Mr. Wardwell married Miss Alta Smith of Newport and both Mr. and Mrs. Wardwell are very much respected and liked in this city and there is no doubt but that the choice of Mr. Wardwell for the nomination for mayor will be pleasing to many outside of his party." -Daily Kennebec Journal 23 February 1918

Listed in 1913 Directory in Waterville as the Treasurer of Wardwell Dry Goods.

"E.C. Wardwell returned Saturday from a short business trip to Boston and New York." -Daily Kennebec Journal 12 September 1904
