EVERETT PALMER MAITLAND
---Everett Palmer Maitland, sixty-eight, died at 4:45, March 25, at the Woodlawn Hospital in Moberly, Missouri after suffering a heart attack.
---Maitland was born December 16, 1885 in Sycamore, Illinois, in Dekalb County, the son of James and Adah Lousa Stark Maitland.
---In February, 1907, he was married to Edna Adelle Mawhinney of Sycarmore and three children were born to this union, Anna Belle, who died in infancy, Howard Maitland of La Plata and Mr. Adah Ator of Des Moines, Iowa. Mrs. Edna Maitland died in February of 1948.
---In June of 1949 Everett Maitland remarried. He was wed to Mrs. Bess Valentine who survives.
---A member of the Methodist Chruch since an early age, Maitland belonged to the I.O.O.F., of which he was a former state official, a graduate of the Chicago Veterinary College in 1910, Maitland praticed Veterinary surgery in La Plata since he moved here shortly after his graduation.
---Funeral services were Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the La Plata Methodist Church. Rev. J.T. Quigley officiated. Special music was by a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Don Nickerson, Floyd Cokerham and Mrs. W.H. Ledbetter, accompanied by Mrs. Merle Matticks
---Graveside services in La Plata Cemetery were conducted by the I.O.O.F. Pallbearers were Roland Eindle, Claud Self, Merle Plumlee, Aldace Naughton, Arthur Green, Jr. and Murrell Burch.

A wedding of interest to their many Sycamore friends, was that of Miss Edna Mawhinney and Mr. Everett Maitland, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Mawhinney, 828 West 35th street, on Wednesday afternoon, February 27, at 5 o'clock.
The beautiful ring ceremony was used and, and Rev. Claude S. Moore, formerly of this city, pronounced them man and wife, in the presence of their families and a few intimate friends. The bride was beautifully gowned in white and was attended by Miss Della Parry of DeKalb, as bridesmaid.
The groom was attended by his cousin, Mr. Frank Stark, of this city, as best man.
After an inviting wedding dinner, the young couple started on a short wedding tour, after which they will be at home on the farm belonging to the groom's father, northeast of town.
The bride or groom need no introduction to our readers. The bride is well and favorably known In Sycamore being a graduate of the Sycamore high school, and held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. The groom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. James Maitland [he] was born and grew to manhood here, and has a host of friends who extend to him and his wife the best wishes for their future.

P407 JAMES MAITLAND is one of the substantial farmers of De Kalb, hisfarm being located in section 35, Sycamore township. He was born inDarlington, Northumberland, Canada, February 28, 1849. Hisfather, James Maitland, Sr., was a Highlander, born in Argyleshire,Scotland, July 20, 1812, and who emigrated to Canada in 1835, locatingnear Darlington. He was a carpenter and ship builder by trade, and about1854 moved to Colburn, Canada, where he was employed at his trade atCole's wharf some eight years. He then returned to Darlington where heengaged in farming until 1868, when he removed to Malta, Illinois, wherehe again worked at his trade. He first married Mary Brown, ofDarlington, and in 1841 married Miss Sarah Renwick, who was the motherof our subject. She was born in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, April 16, 1822,and who came to America in 1835, her parents settling near Darlington,Canada. She was the daughter of Walter and Mary (Guthrie) Renwick, alsonatives of Scotland. Her death occurred in Sycamore, Illinois, September12, 1894. The paternal grandfather, William Maitland, was a native ofScotland, where his death occurred in 1814. The subject of this sketchwas about five years old when the family moved to Colburn, and he thereattended school until about the age of fourteen years, when they removedfive miles northeast of Colburn, where he resided until coming toIllinois in 1868. He arrived at Malta, November 14, and for one yearworked on a farm. He was then employed on various farms in theneighborhood for three years, at the expiration of which time he went toSycamore and worked with a hay press and at his trade for a time, andfor three seasons engaged in running a threshing machine. He was marriedin Sycamore, October 14, 1874, to Miss Ada L. Stark, a native of De Kalb4 CONC, and a daughter of Marshall Stark, a sketch of whom appearselsewhere in this work. By this union two children have been born:Howard Henry, who died at the age of four P408 years and eight months, and Everitt P. They have adopted Herbert HarmonStark, one of the sons of Harmon M. Stark, the eldest brother of Mrs.Maitland. Soon after his marriage Mr. Maitland began farming one mile north ofSycamore on a farm of his father-in-law, and there resided one year.Removing to Kingston he there engaged in farming two years, and thenreturned to his father-in-law's farm, which he operated eight years. Hethen rented his present farm for two years, having an option for itspurchase. He bought it in 1892, the farm comprising two hundred and tenacres, every- foot of it tillable land. It is well improved and hasbetween five and six miles of tiling. In addition to general farming Mr.Maitland engages in dairying to some extent, usually keeping fromeighteen to twenty cows. His barn is one of the most substantial in the4 CONC, being what is known as a truss barn, and is thirty-six bysixty-four feet. A well one hundred and four feet deep gives anunfailing supply of pure water. He has two orchards on the place,covering about three acres of land, on which he raises apples, peaches,plums, pears, cherries and small fruit in abundance. In politics Mr. Maitland is a Republican, and has served as roadcommissioner and school director for some years. He is a member of theIndependent Order of Odd Fellows, of the subordinate lodge, encampment,and canton of Patriarchs Militant. He has passed all the chairs in thesubordinate lodge and encampment, serving as noble grand and chiefpatriarch. He has also been grand representative for seven years. As acitizen he is enterprising and progressive, and his farm shows the workof a master hand.

Member of Pioneer Family of Sycamore Community Dies After Lingering Illness in LaPlata, Mo. -- Funeral Will Be In This City -- Leaves Wife, Two Sons
James Maitland, one of the early pioneer residents of this community,died Sunday at LaPlata, Mo., after a lingering illness. He was 83 yearsof age. Funeral services were held this Tuesday afternoon at the home ofMrs. Maitland's nephew, Charles Lee, 265 DeKalb avenue, this city. Rev.A. W, Mohns, of this city, officiated. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery.
James Maitland was born in Darlington, Canada, Feb. 28, 1849. Hisfather, James Maitland, 8r. was a Highlander, born in Argyleshire,Scotland, and emigrated to Canada in 1835, locating near Darlington. Hismother was Miss Sarah Renwick. She was born in Scotland and came withher parents to Darlington, Canada. She died in Sycamore Sept. 12, I894.
When Mr. Maitland was five years of age his parents moved to Colburn,Canada, where he attended school until about the age of 14 years whenthe family moved to. a farm nearby and then to 1888 came to Illinois.Mr. Maitland arrived in Malta in November of that year and worked farone year on a farm. He came to Sycamore three years later and worked ahay press and later ran a threshing machine. He was married in Sycamore,Oct. 14, 1874, to Miss Ada L. Stark, a native of DeKalb, and adaughter of Marshall Stark. To this union were born two children, HowardHenry, who died at the age of four years, and Everitt P. Maitland. Theyadopted one of the sons of Harmon M, Stark, the eldest brother of Mrs.Maitland.
Soon after his marriage Mr. Maitland began fanning one mile north ofSycamore on a farm of his father-in- law's. Removing to Kingston hethere engaged In farming two years, years (sic). He bought a farm In1892 on the Mt. Hunger road. The farm is now owned by Ed. Carlson.
The community deeply regretted when about 20 years ago Mr. and Mrs.Maitland moved to LaPlata. Mo., where their son, Everitt, was apracticing veterinarian. Mr. Maitland is survived by his wife, his son,Everitt, and adopted son, Herbert Stark, all of LaPlata: fivegrand-children, two sisters, Mrs., W. C, Beardsley of Sycamore and Mrs.Janet Meade of Boston, Mass., and six brothers, Walter of Sycamore,Robert of Garner, Ia., George of Sycamore, Herbert of Arthur, Minn.,Henry of Belmond, Ia., and Thomas of Nashua, Ia.
