From the Syracuse, Indiana, website In May of 1875, a meeting was called to discuss incorporating the town and establishing a system of law and order. On September 18, 1875 the official election on whether the town should be incorporated was successfully passed by a vote of 66 to 53. The first elected town officials consisted of the first Town Board were: Amos King, Ward 1 Trustee Addison Green, Ward 2 Trustee Evan Miles, Ward 3 Trustee Each Town Board Member received $10.00 for his term of office which ran from November 23, 1875 through May 1877. Evan Miles was elected as the first President of the Syracuse Town Board at their first meeting of November 24, 1876. References
