Facts and Events
From the Plainview News, Plainview, Nebraska, December, 1931: Mrs. A. B. Schoenauer / Had Been Resident of / Nebraska Long Time Evaline Brandenburg was born June 5th, 1857 in Whitley County, Indiana, and died in her home in Plainview, Nebraska, December 8, 1931, at the age of 74 years, 6 months, and 3 days. She was the youngest of seven children born to Eliphalet and Susan Brandenburg, all of whom preceded her in death, except one sister, Mrs. A. B. Bell, of Ida Grove, Iowa, and one half-brother, W[illiam] S[herman] Brandenburg, of Huntington, Ind. Her early childhood was spent on a farm with her parents, until she was twelve years of age, when her mother died. Later, her father married Mrs. Swank, again living on a farm. On October 21, 1883 she was married to A[lfred] B. Schoenauer, at Huntington, Ind. They were schoolmates and their fathers farms adjoining. The following spring, February 28, 1884, they left for the West and located on a farm northeast of Plainview. Many were the discouragements for a time, but economy and hard work overcame the difficulties. They resided on the farm twenty years, moving to Plainview in 1904. Three children were born to this union; Arlen, Vilas, and Eber, all of Plainview. There are two children by a former marriage; Lawrence Fisher of Plainview and Alma Acton of Dayton, Ohio, all are living. There are also seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Schoenauer was converted to the Christian Faith and was baptised [sic]in her girlhood days, and never, through all her life did she relinquish her faith in God. She was a member of the Friends church of Plainview and was an ardent worker and regular attendant at all time until a few years ago when she was taken seriously ill. Even during the period of her greatest suffering she knew God would take care of her. Funeral services were held in the Friends church Thursday, December 10th, Rev. J. W. Lowe, officiating. Interment was made in the new cemetery north of town. They do not die, who leave us / For that better, fairer land; / It would not so bereave us / Could they make us understand. / Though dark the cloud above us / When they speak to us no more, / They think of us and love us, / And have only gone before. --Parnassos 01:44, 8 September 2011 (EDT) References
