Eunice Clarinda Teeples Turner was one of the youngest individuals to migrate from Illinois to Utah with the Mormon pioneers. She was born in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1847 and would travel to Utah before she reached the age of one. As a result of her young age at the time, as well as her subsequent long life, she would live to be celebrated as one of the last surviving participants of the Mormon migration.
[edit] Early LifeEunice was born in Nauvoo, Illinois on 9/27/1847 to George Teeples and Huldah Colby. [edit] Migration to Salt Lake CityIn spring of 1948, less than a year after her birth, Eunice came with her parents on the trek to Utah. Her family settled in Ogden, but later moved to Fillmore, where Eunice spent most of her married life. [edit] Married LifeEunice married Thomas Henry Turner, an immigrant from England on November 23, 1863 when she was 20 years old. Thomas and Eunice had 11 children. Her hobbies including making quilts, taking long automobile rides, and listening to the radio. She hoped to one day ride in an airplane. [edit] Celebrated PioneerBecause of her relatively young age when crossing the plains, Eunice lived to be one of the last remaining pioneers who made the trek. When she was in her 90s, she was the subject of multiple newspaper articles discussing her long life and pioneer experience. [edit] DeathEunice died of old age at the home of her daughter Mrs. William A. Middleton on March 19, 1945 at the age of 97. She was buried three days later at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.[1] [edit] References
