Mrs. James Alfred Pearce passed away quietly at her home in Chestertown about 10 p.m. Thursday evening age seventy-seven years, just two weeks after the death of her husband Judge James Alfred Pearce. Mrs. Pearce was born in st. Louis and was the eldest daughter of Mr. Unit Rasin, of the firm of Rasin, Cabarre & Co. She was endowed with rare personal magnetism and ability, and until the last few years, when failing health compelled her to give up her work, was active in all things which pertained to the welfare of the church and the community and to the spirit of mankind.
She was possessed of unusual intelligence and a great sense of humor and her conversation was a source of pleasure to all who heard her.
Her flower garden was one of the beauty spots of the town for the flowers seemed to do their best to grow and flourish for the gentle lady, who loved them so. Her loss will be keenly felt.
She is survived by her four sisters, Mrs. Gooding of Chestertown, Mrs. Samuel Merritt of Baltimore, Miss Tillie Rasin of Chestertown, and Mrs. Horsey of Galena.
Funeral services will be held next Monday at 12 o'clock in Emmanuel P. E. Church, conducted by Rev. C.L. Atwater, rector, assisted by Rev. Dr. H.B. Morris. Interment will be in Chester cemetery. The pall bearers will be Allen A. Harris, P.G. Wilmer, S.S. Beck, S.P. Townshend, Dr. F.B. Hines and Lewis W. Wickes. C.L. Dodd, undertaker.
