Eula W. Weston, 81, formerly of Skowhegan, who headed the Maine State Racing Commission in 1936, died at a Virginia hospital early Monday. A native of Mercer, Mrs. Weston lived with her daughter, Mrs. Emily W. Lennartson in Alexandria, Va. Mrs. Lennartson's husband, Nils, A. Lennartson, is a former Maine newsman who heads the Railway Progress Institute in Washington. Mrs. Weston was appointed chairman of the racing commission after the death of her husband, Fred W. Weston, the first commission chairman following the legalization of pari-mutual betting in Maine. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a brother, Wesley Watson of Skowhegan. |

COUNCIL CONFIRMS MRS. WESTON AS RACE COMMISSION CHAIRMAN Augusta. Nov. 20--AP--Governor Brann's appointment of Mrs. Eula Watson Weston (R) of Skowhegan as Chairman of the Maine State Racing Commission to succeed her late husband, Fred W. Weston, was confirmed today by the Executive Council. The Council vote unanimously to confirm the nomination of Mrs. Weston, the second woman to be nominated to a State office by Governor Brann within the past few weeks.
