Dea. Eugene F. Stillman, son of Joseph F. and Lorinda Maria (Green) Stillman, was born in the town of Westerly, R. I., at the Stillman home on Berry Hill, about midway between the villages of Westerly and Potter Hill, August 22, 1849, and died February 21, 1910, having always resided in Westerly. He learned the carriage business at his father's shop on Berry Hill, and followed this business until December, 1893, since which date he has been caring for his interests in real estate.
On March 4, 1872, he was married to Miss Eva Berry, daughter of Peleg L. and Mary Rogers Berry, who survives him. Their three daughters, - Mrs. Murray Gates of Narragansett Pier, Mrs. William B. Clarke, of Pittsburg, Pa., and Mrs. Alexander Blake, of Westerly, with their respective families, an aged mother and three brothers, remain to mourn his departure.
March 25, 1865, Mr. Stillman and Eva Berry were baptized and united with the First Seventh-day Baptist Church of Hopkinton, R. I., which has ever since been their church home. For five or more years he was superintendent of the Sabbath school, and the church ordained him to the office of deacon October 6, 1888, and since 1893 he has served on the Board of Managers of the Seventh-day Baptist Missionary Society.
Funeral services conducted by Pastor Wm. L. Burdick were held February 23, and interment was made in First Hopkinton Cemetery. For such Christ prepared an incorruptible crown of righteousness.
