A jolly, quiet person, and a terrific cook.
Irene married 1st on 28 January 1920 to Leroy William "Roy" Cordes (1897-1943). They farmed at Meservey. After his death, she worked in a factory in Cedar Falls, IA where coworkers called her "Tillie the Toiler." She was always bubbly, cheerful and well liked.
She married 2nd between 1950 and 1952 to Homer John Kuns (1889-1976). He was then the janitor at the jail in the county court house in Charles City, Iowa, and she became the cook (a terrific cook). Homer's name is on Irene's tombstone, but he is buried at Gladbrook, Iowa, with his parents.
Irene had no children.
Roy and Irene were married 28 Jan 1920 in Clarion, Iowa, according to the Feb 4 Monitor:
"Parks-Cordes
LeRoy W. Cordes, of Goodell, and Irene Parks, of Clarion, were married at the Methodist parsonage Wednesday afternoon, January 28th, the ring ceremony being used. The young people were accompanied by Wesley and Ruby Parks, the brother and sister of the bride, who acted as best man and bride's maid.
Mrs. Cordes is the eldest daughter of W. G. Parks of this city, and her husband the eldest son of Framer Cordes of Goodell, formerly of Clarion. The friendship of the two families is of long standing, and this happy event will tend to cement the ties more strongly.
Mr. and Mrs. Cordes left on the Great Western for a few days' visit in Fort Dodge. They will to to housekeeping soon on a farm near Goodell. These excellent young people will have the best wishes of a large circle of friends."
