One should probably not air "dirty laundry"; however, I have been told that Esther and Elbert Merriman Isley were probably not married; at least not at first. My "sources" tell me that Esther would usually get pregnant about the same time as Elbert's wife, Nellie Dee. No marriage record has been found in either Alamance or Guilford County.
Mrs.. Esther K. Isley BURLINGTON - Mrs.. Esther Kellam Isley, 90, of 1546 Flora Ave., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. E.M. Isley and the daughter of Mr. Samuel Kellam and Mrs.. Jessie Oliver Kellam, both deceased. She was a retired employee of Sanders Hosiery Mill and was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Survivors include five daughter, Mrs.. Betty Ball, Mrs.. Geraldine Myers Mix and Mrs.. Faye Lucas, all of Burlington, Mrs.. Agnes Owen of Hickory and Mrs.. Shirley Killmeier of Liberty; three sisters, Miss Agnes Kellam of Burlington, Mrs.. Ada Ridge of High Point and Mrs.. Ruth Phillips of Liberty; two brothers, Mr. Harvey Kellam of Burlington and Mr. Roy Kellam of Siler City; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Larry Isley; a sister, Ms. Edna Robertson; and a grandchild. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Gerald Collins, pastor of Black Mountain United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening;. Following the graveside service, the family will be at the home of Mrs.. Shirley Killmeier, 6993 Garrett Store Road, Liberty; and at other times at the home of Mrs.. Geraldine Myers Mix, 1321 Dogwood St., Burlington. |
