Some trees indicate that she was the daughter of Philip and Elizabeth Ickes. However, she is not listed as an heir in the court record. The John Ickes Genealogy[3] does not mention her.

The census records are not a lot of help, since it is difficult to reconcile the known and uncertain birth years of Philip's daughters with the information given in the 1810-1830 censuses. The 1830 census in particular indicates that the only females in Philip's household were over the age of 19 (born by 1810) or under the age of 5 (born 1825-1830), which would exclude Esther, but also Elizabeth (born 1813 and married late 1830) and Margaret (born about 1820 according to the 1850 census, and maybe as late as 1823 but not likely as late as 1825). If Margaret was born too late to be counted in the 1820 census, Esther could account for one of the daughters in the 1820 census, but if Margaret was counted in the 1820 census, then Esther was not.
