About Erwin Louis "Lou" Haan
Erwin Louis "Lou" Haan was born 9 December 1925 in Michigan. He was the son of Erwin Leon Haan (1896-1959) and Jeanette Gezon (1897-1950). His father was listed as a "Salesman in the auto retail industry" in the 1930 U.S. Census and a "Sales Supervisor in the consumers electric industry" in the 1940 U.S. Census. Lou attended school in Grand Rapids Michigan and is listed as an 8th Grade elementary student in the 1940 U.S. Census, then living on Fairmont Street, with his parents and brothers Phillip A. Haan [Age 17], Gilbert James Haan [age 11] and Robert Haan [age 9]. Lou served his country in World War II in the United States Army, enlisting on 17 January 1944 and he was released for service on 10 May 1946. His graduation thesis, "The Perception of a form in an undifferentiated field as indicated by the observer's use of the Tilt-Board" is still listed on the Michigan State University Library website. While at Michigan State University, Lou met and married his wife Carrie Marie Considine (1930-2018), daughter of James William Considine (1908-1971) and Carrie Layton (b. abt. 1910). They had four children together: Candi, Richard "Rick", Christopher and Katherine. Lou worked as a Program Manager for much of his adult working life, was a hard-working employee, and a good family man. He predeceased his wife Carrie by 24 years on 20 May 1994 in Orange County, California.
