According to the book Merrimans (Merrymans) and Tracy (Traceys): pioneer community builders: from Maryland through Pennsylvania to Ohio found on Ancestry.com, "Errett Merriman wrote a great many people about the Merriman family in the mid and later 1900's but as so many Merrimans, they sought knowledge of the family but gave very little data about themselves. Dr. Elijah almost fails to mention himself. This is one reason for the trouble in completing and filling out so many branches of the family. Errett served as a corrections officeer in State Institutions in PA and NY and took interest in the family after he retired. He had no heirs."
