    E. Emmers
    E. Robert Emmers, 89, a long-time resident of State College, a retiree from Penn State University and a man of constant patience and good cheer, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 27,1923, in Royersford, the son of Edward and Marian Emmers. He graduated from Royersford High School, where he played quarterback on the football squad, and later attended Penn State University, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He earned a degree in industrial engineering and then from 1944 to 1946 served in the United States Merchant Marine.

    On June 10,1947, after returning from his service, he married Margaret Hussey, daughter of Robert A. and Maude Krumrine Hussey. His wife survives, along with a daughter, Julia Emmers Desmond of State College(Michael), and a son, Robert H. Emmers(Rosetta) of Dubois. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Alanna Desmond Novosel(Thomas),of Bellefonte, and a grandson, Mackenzie Robert Desmond,of Key West. FL.

    Mr. Emmers worked briefly for Jones and Laughlin Steel Company in Aliquippa, before returning to State College to begin a long career at Penn State. He retired as the Building and Facilities Coordinator.

    He enjoyed watching his grandson play sports and his granddaughter dance and sing. He was a Little League coach when his son was young. Both he and his wife were avid bowlers and at one time were partners in the ownership of Centre Lanes, a local bowling alley. He enjoyed reading and keeping up with other alumni of Royersford High School. He was an inveterate joke teller and loved passing new ones around to friends by email. He also delivered Meals- on- Wheels to the local community.

    Services for Mr. Emmers will be private.
