- ↑ There appears, from the description, to have been nothing in the display very showy or gorgeous, even for a country-town, but it was sufficiently striking to please the common fancy, and, what was of more importance, it was full of pregnant meanings which impressed themselves with great force upon the"popular mind, sharply pointing the facts and logic of Mr. Watson. From that day the society and its objects held a chief place in the hearts of the people of Berkshire. At its meeting on the first day of the fair, the society appointed as a committee to award premiums on the stock exhibited: Major Erastus Rowley, Major Samuel Buffi ngton, Joseph Shearer, Esq., Woleott Hubbel, Esq., Col. Levi Belding, Dr. Thaddeus Pomeroy, and Capt. Daniel Brown, who, the next day, made the following report: That Erastus Sackett of Pittsfield exhibited the best bull ; that Capt. Nathaniel Fair- field of Pittsfield, exhibited the best yoke of oxen, but he not being a member of the society, could not receive the premium, and it was given to David Ashley, Jr., of Pittsfield, who made the next best exhibition of oxen. That Roswell Root of Pittsfield showed the best four-year-old steers, David Campbell of Pittsfield the best three-year-old, Henry Chamberlin of Dalton the best two-year-old. That Benjamin Brown of Cheshire exhibited the best cow; Roswell Root of Pittsfield and Henry Chamberlin of Dalton, the best swine ; Jonathan Allen of Pittsfield the best full-blood merino lamb ; Arthur Scholfield of Pittsfield the best seven-eighths blood merino lamb; Samuel L. Allen of Pittsfield the best twenty common ewes. And the premiums were delivered accordingly.

- ↑ appears to show two white males aged 1-10 (Milton (John) and Erastus, one 10-16 (Edward S.) and one 45 plus (Erastus) The remaining columns are not headed and are a bit harder to square with the household. On the census there is a one in column 6, one in column 8, one in column nine and two in column 10. Catherine was probably not born yet; Eunice would have been about 14, Abigail would have been about 18, and Eunice, the mother, would have been about 37. (Anna (Nancy) had died in 1810 and Maria/Mary had died in 1807.) Maybe, the rest were relatives or hired help.
