Ephraim R. Proctor, a native of Madison county, came to Allegany county in 1827, and lived at Alfred Centre eleven years, engaged in farming and the manufacture of hats. In 1838 he came to Wellsville and located on a farm settled by Silas Devore, where he has since lived. He was married in 1826, to Miss Mary Cartwright, a native of Madison county, who came to Alfred in 1824. His son, Orvill O. Proctor, who was born on the old homestead, where he has always resided, was in the war of the Rebellion.
