Ò[Madifam.FTW] Ephraim Carmack who settled in Mercer Co. Ohio in 1844, married Sarah Brightwell. He opened a grave-yard on his farm which the neighborhood used for many years.
Information about Ephraim Carmack was from a book titled "History of Van Wert and Mercer Counties, Ohio" listed under James Grunden, page 470.Ephraim was born in Woodsboro, Frederick Co. Maryland. The family left Maryland and moved to Crab Orchard, Ky (or possibly Tenn), and then to Cincinnati. There he met and married Sarah Brightwell. After their first 4 children were born they
moved to Paddy's Run, (now called Shandon), in Butler Co, Oh. "He was a natural born teamster and distingusied in his cherished avocation. He brought with him a genuine conestoga wagon and a team of eight horses. He was also a 'mighty hunter' and seldom returned from his excursions without bringing many trophies of his skill in the chase." The cholera epidemic took Ephraim's wife Sarah, their son Basil, his mother Susannah White and her husband Benjamin. Ephraim and some of his children moved to Mercer Co.Ó
