source Stark1949 p 15. between 1944- 1946 served in S Pacific US Navy turret gunner B-24 bomber. During WW2 while serving in the Navy was flying to Hawaiiin a transport plane . the plane developed engine trouble and the pilot ordered it to be relieved of some of its weight . Emmet parachuted into the Pacific and swam around for serverl hours before bieng rescued. Later he trained inCorpus Christie Texas and rescued several down aircraft.
