Emily was previously married to Tracy Haliburton, was employed with the Texas Highway Department (now TXDOT), and she was a homemaker until entering the workforce in accounting offices at the Sears Roebuck Store in McAllen, Texas. She retired soon after she married her 2nd husband, Raymond. They traveled extensively until his death in 1992.

Emily celebrated her 90th birthday in 1998. She died in 2003. She was a resident of the Rio Grand Valley (Pharr & McAllen) for most of her adult life. She moved to Merrill Gardens in San Marcos in June of 2000.
