ELMER L. SANFORD SERVICES HELD FRI.
Elmer Leroy Sanford was born July 11, 1858 in Wasioja Twp. Dodge Center Minnesota, and died at the University Hospital at Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 14, 1939. He was the youngest and last survivor of 13 children born to Elias Sanford and Elvira Hecox, who settled in Dodge Co., in 1857. On July 15,1880 he was married to Mattie Joanna Mills who preceded him in death on Apr. 13, 1935.
Mr. Sanford is survived by his children; Carl E. Sanford of Des Moines, Iowa, Myrtle E. Fitch of Minneapolis Rolland J. Sanford and Laura M. Adams of Dodge Center, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, besides other relatives and numerous friends.
In early life Mr. Sanford learned the blacksmithing trade at Faribault and Rochester, Minnesota and later was in the blacksmith and wagon making business at Dodge Center for many years. He was a public spirited citizen and took many a great deal of interest in his home town, serving for several terms as president of the Village Council and Village Clerk. During the World War he gave much of his time and means as County Chairman of the Red Cross. He was a man of strong convictions, yet was a kind and a good neighbor.
For many years he had been a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows Orders.
Funeral services were held at the SDB church at 2 P.M. on Fri. with burial at Riverside cemetery. Rev. C. W. Thorngate officiated at the church and Masonic Order at the grave.
