    Chester W. Sanford was born in Joe Davis County Illinois, Feb. 19, 1838 and died at his home in Dodge Center, Minnesota, Jan. 12, 1911 of heart failure at the age of 72 yr. 10 mo. and 23 days.

    In 1856 he came with the family to Dodge Co., Minnesota settling in Claremount township.
    On July 3, 1865, he was married to Miss Dorcas A. Houghtaling. To them were born six children, Andrew of Castlewood, South Dakota, Frank L. of California, Mrs. Jennie Hovda of Prairie Farm, Wisconsin, H. L. of Dodge Center, Oscar of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Clara Maxson of Alexandria, South Dakota, all of whom where present at the funeral except Frank and Mrs. Maxson.

    Besides the children among those who are left to mourn his departure are four brothers, E. L. and E. A. of Dodge Center, E. P. of Ulen, and Joel of Mantorville, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Morton of Fresno, California, and Mrs. Louise Stevens of Mantorville, besides a large number of friends.

    Mr. Sanford lived for many years on his farm three miles northwest of town, but for the past few years has resided in town, and his familiar form will be missed on our streets.
    Mr. Sanford had been ailing for several days & had been cared for bay his son, H. Lee and on Thursday forenoon was up about the house and felt better than for several days, so that Lee concluded to go to Hayfield on the noon train and back in the evening to look after his business interests in that place. At about 7 P.M. Frank Severance and E. P. Sanford went to C. W. Sanford house and found him sitting in the big arm chair, life having passed away with out a struggle.

    The funeral services were held in the Congregational church Sun. afternoon, Rev. Colin Bain, officiating; and the interment made in Riverside cemetery by the side of the wife who had departed this life on June 27, 1880.
