DEATH: 9/11/21 Ð 9/27/06 God peacefully called his good and faithful servant, Elmer L. Knight, home on Wednesday Sept. 27, 2006. He was delivered by his father, Earl E. Knight, at their homestead in Minnesota on Sept. 11, 1921. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during WW II, successfully completing 52 bombing missions in Italy and Northern Africa. He was awarded the Purple Heart and numerous other medals for his valor in service. He married the love of his life, Helen M. Fisher at the First Southern Baptist Church in Tucson, Ariz. on April 2, 1951. He retired from Tucson Electric Power Company in 1979 after 28 years of service. He was a founding member and deacon of First Evangelical Free Church in Tucson. After retirement Elmer and Helen moved to Boise, Idaho where they lived until 2005. While in Boise, he spent many years leading Bible Studies, supporting charities and assisting others in need. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. In the fall of 2005 they returned to Tucson. His memories are cherished by his beloved wife of 55 years, Helen, his three daughters and sons-in-law Nita (Norman) Week, Shirleen (Merritt) Montgomery and Julie (Lester) Love; grandchildren Norm, Brian and Stacy Week, Andrea (Kenny) Stevens and Lauren Love; great-grandchildren Shayla Week and Kylie Stevens; sisters-in-law Shirley Latterell and Evelyn Fisher; sisters Alice Petron and Lucille (Charley) Mitchell; numerous nieces and nephews; many lifelong friends, including Ira Piper, Joyce and Jerry Hosterman, Pastor Wayne and Beverly Lehsten, Tom and Holly Westall. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Pamelia Knight, his brother Lynn Knight, and his granddaughter Heather Stevenson. Memorial services will be held on Sunday Oct, 1, 2006 at 3 p.m. at The Journey, First Evangelical Free Church at 4700 N Swan road, Tucson, Ariz. Our deepest thanks to Juan, Bridget, Michelle, Gail and the staff of Wisdom Court for their devoted and outstanding care for Elmer. Thanks also to the dedicated staff of Casa de la Luz Hospice caregivers. Elmer had a love for the lost and needy Ð in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gospel Rescue Missions.
