Obit from Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society for Elmer Leo HORTON (- pub 14 Dec 1987) ELECTRIC CITY- Elmer Leo Horton, 93, Electric City, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1987, at his home following an extended illness. He was born April 23, 1894, in Portersville, Wis., to the late Elmer C. and Margaret (Freeman) Horton. He married Florence Humphrey, April 25, 1918, in Adrion. She preceded him in death on Sept 19, 1969. Mr. Horton worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad, as a farmer and in construction. He moved to the Grand Coulee Dam area and worked on the construction of the dam until 1940. He worked for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation from 1940 until his retirement in 1959 as a truck driver and equipment operator. He served in the U.S. Army in France during World War 1 and was a member of the American Legion in Electric City. He married Thelma B. Dent in Walla Walla in 1970. Survivors include his wife, at the home; two sons, Herbert and Arthur, both of Electric City; four daughters, Mrs. Henry (Hazel) Secrest of Spokane, Mrs. Joe (Marian) Keller of Woodinville, and Mrs. Arthur (Dorothy) Kelly and Mrs. W.O. (Doris) Palmer, both of Electric City; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters and one daughter. Strate Funeral Home, Grand Coulee, is in charge of arrangements. ELMER LEO HORTON - Services will be held Wed., Dec. 16, 1 p.m. from the Strate Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Coulee with Rev. Steve Archer officiating. Military honors provided by American Legion. Burial will be in the Spring Canyon Cemetery. Arrangements by Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee. References
