On Ellen's death certificate her age is given as 40 years. However, on her youngest child's (Alexander) death certificate, just over a year before, her age is given as 35. I have estimated that she was born in 1835 because her death certificate states that she was 20 years of age when she was married, while Alexander's birth certificate indicates that she was married in June 1855. This indicates that she was born around 1835 and is in accordance with the age given on Alexander's birth certificate.

Alexander's birth certificate indicates that Ellen was born in Tynemouth, England, while the death certificate says Scotland. Her father is given as William Tuck, mariner. Her death certificate indicates that Ellen had been in Victoria for 18 years, Suggesting that she came there shortly after her marriage in about 1856.

On Alexander's birth certificate, previous issue are given as:Isabella, 15; Jessie, dead; Edward, 11; Jessie, dead; Ada, 6; Mary, dead; Alfred, 3.

On Ellen's death certificate, 16 months later, only the surviving children are listed. Note, however, the discrepencies with Edward and Alfred (James): Isabella, 17; Charles Edward, 11; Ada, 9; James, 5; Alexander, 1 1/2.
