  The death of Mrs. Charles Tunis, of this city, occurred on Friday afternoon, after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Tunis was a lady of many admirable traits of character, and her death will be regretted by a numerous circle of friends in Monmouth county, where the family formerly resided, and where he husband was at one time connected with the press and afterwards for twenty-five years with the New York customs service. Owing to the extreme illness of another member of the family, the funeral will be private.

Tunis, died at Trenton. Mr. Tunis for many years lived in the western part of Monmouth county, where he and his wife were well known. Mr. Tunis was especially well known, as for years he was the Republican leader in his section of the county. For more than 25 years he was connected with the custom house in New York, and for a number of years was chief of one of the bureaus of the department. Mrs. Tunis was a woman of many admirable traits of character, and of varied accomplishments. The family moved to Trenton a few years ago, where Mr. Tunis was connected with the press of that city.   At the family residence, in this city, on Friday afternoon, occurred the death of Mrs. Ellen Gertrude, wife of Charles S. Tunis, formerly of Monmouth County, where he was many years ago connected with the local press, as he was for a time with papers in this city. Mr. Tunis was afterwards for over a quarter of a century connected with the customs service in New York, reaching the positions of chief of the Bureau of Protests and Appeals and Acting Deputy Collector.
 The deceased possessed many admirable traits of character and varied accomplishments and will be greatly missed in a ? circle of friends. She leaves besides her husband a family of four grownup daughters and one son approaching manhood. On account of the extreme illness of a member of the family we understand the funeral, which takes place tomorrow, is to be private. Trenton Sunday Advertiser.
  In connection with the above we will add that Mrs. Tunis was the daughter of George Peacock, of New York, a wholesale merchant in the paper trade. She was almost 53 years of age, and had been in declining health for some time. A deceased brother was an artist of some celebrity, a member of the National Academy of Design and a surviving brother is in a prominent departimental position in washington. Mr. Tunis will be the subject of much sympathy from those who knew the deceased.

  Mrs. Violetta Peacock, widow of the late George Peacock, died April 11, at the residence of her son-in-law Chas. S. Tunis, in Englishtown, aged nearly 81 years.
