From Obituary of Ellen Bell Leslie: The sad news was received here on Wednesday of the death of Mrs. Ellen B. Leslie, formerly of Port Mouton, but who has been a resident of East Boston, leaving here with her family about 16 years ago. Although Mrs. Leslie has not enjoyed the best of health for a number of years, many did not know it, and her death came as a shock to her many friends. The remains were forwarded by Friday's boat, accompanied by four of the children viz: Arthur, Harley, Iva and Irene and a young grandson, Leslie Munroe. One of the sons, Percey was unable to come having been taken ill with pleurisy the day after his mother's death. The funeral service was held from the United Church, on Saturday afternoon, where a large number of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respect to one so well loved. Many were the expressions of sympathy to the bereaved ones. Rev. C.H.C. MacLaren, who had charge of the services at the Church and grave, spoke very touchingly, referring to the girlhood and later life of the deceased as being exemplary, and urging those present to take up the work that she had laid down, and to be read as she was, when the call came. It was said of Mrs. Leslie that she was a lovely child--a lovely girl--and a lovely woman. "She being dead--yet speaketh, and her words do follow her." She leaves to mourn the loss of a loving mother, 3 sons -- Percey, of East Boston; Harley, of Chelsea; Arthur, of Salem, and two daughters--Iva, (Mrs. Munroe) and Irene (Mrs. Larkin) both of East Boston, and one brother, Jason Leslie, of Rockland, ME.
