Ella Walsh was born June 17, 1888 to Irish immigrants David and Catherine Walsh in West Grove, PA. Her parents had arrived from Co. Cork five years earlier and her three oldest siblings were born there. The Walshes lived in West Grove until soon after David's death in 1903, after which they moved to Philadelphia.

Ella was three months pregnant with her third child when her husband James fell ill and died in 1917.

She is buried with family in her uncle John Keigan's grave at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
