Facts and Events
COBB, ELKANAH, from Connecticut, 1770 ; married Mary, da. of Jonathan Willard, and settled on the late homestead of Elisha Allen. He died in 1795, aged 49. His son, Capt. Willard Cobb, was an officer in the war of 1812, married a daughter of Caleb Allen. He built the store house at Polley's landing, in Fort Ann. Thence he went west. Another son, James, was in the war of 1812, and, at its close, entered West Point Military Academy. He removed to the state of Georgia. It is understood that Howell Cobb, conspicuous in the late rebellion, is his son. [Hollister was wrong about Howell - the Howell Cobb "conspicuous in the late rebellion" was not James' son. Further, while James lived in Maryland, DC, Ohio, Indiana and Arkansas, no evidence has been found that he ever lived in Georgia.] S1 For an extensive and totally documented account of Elkanah and many of his descendants, see Terry Reigel's Cobbs of Pawlet Vermont website. His descent from the emigrant Henry Cobb, as well as his and his wife's Mayflower descents are also documented there. References
