• Per Winslow¹, Elizabeth Wyatt was NOT the wife of Joseph Oates, but rather the wife of his father, James Oates. Winslow provides no dates or sources for Elizabeth Wyatt, but states that the birth dates of her children can be found in the Berkeley Parish register. More research needed.

   ... James Oates was dead October 6, 1703. His will was probated January, 1704, and names son Joseph, and wife, Elizabeth, another, legatee Jonathan Ervins. Elizabeth Oates was a daughter of John Wyatt and wife Rachel Calloway. The ages of their children are given in Berkeley Parish Register as follows:
   - John, born August 7, 1697 [sic];
   - John (first by name), born Feb 4, 1667;
   - Jesse, born August 31, 1669;
   - Mary, born November 16, 1672.
