Thomas^l), … married Elizabeth Way, daughter of Eleazer Way and Mary (_____), and sister of Sarah Way, who married his brother Ichabod³ Welles (#30); and died in Middletown, Connecticut after 9 April 1751 when one-half of her late husband's estate was surveyed for her by Dosithins Humphrey and John Coles (Hartford Probate District, Connecticut Estate Piles, docket no. 5830). … On 10 July 1744, William Powell of Hartford petitioned the probate court that his wife Elizabeth, the daughter of Joseph Welles, deceased, was herself deceased and therefore that her dower should be set off to his mother-in-law Elizabeth Welles, widow, for the widow's natural life (Manwaring 1:593 citing XIV:46)."
