Lucy Hoadley was b. ca 1814 in New Haven, CT. and d. before 1903. She and her sister Julia lived with her widowed mother, when she met John Stocking b. 7 Feb 1808 of Cromwell, CT and they were m. ca 1830 in New Haven I think. John Stocking went searching for work as none around this area and he ended up in New Orleans. After a period of 13 years he finally came home to find that Julia had married and that his wife Lucy had his daughter Elizabeth b. 9 April 1831(my gr grandmother) and Lucy (having been told that John had died of yellow fever in New Orleans) had re-married a James Gatfield and moved to Newark, NJ. Elizabeth lived with her Aunt Julia thru some of her teenage years, and then moved to NJ to be with her mother. Elizabeth eventually m. Charles Augustus Hayes (Hays) of Newark ( my gr grandparents). This is the most info I have. Elizabeth's funeral bill listed Lucy Hoadley of New Haven, CT as her mother. ...
