Elizabeth Spire was born on 20th May 1704 at Ashton under Hill, which was then in Gloucestershire. She was the daughter of Sarah Spire, formerly Hughes, and her husband Thomas Spire, a weaver. Elizabeth was a twin, having a brother called Thomas. Sadly both twins died when less than a month old. Both were buried on 20th June 1704.
