Elizabeth V. Syverson

Funeral for Elizabeth V. Syverson of Gresham will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Holgate Church of God.

Mrs. Syverson died Sunday of a heart attack in a Gresham hospital. She was 86.

She was born Nov. 24, 1901 in Corbett, where she was raised and educated. She married Herbert S. Syverson Nov. 24, 1921, in Corbett. The couple farmed and mined in the Corbett area until they moved to San Francisco in 1930. There they attended bible college for a year.

Following the completion of their religious studies in the early 1930's. they moved to La Junta, Colo., where they worked for the Salvation Army. In 1936, they were both ordained as ministers for the Church of God and went to El Salvador to work as missionaries and overseers of missionary operations in Central America. They remained in El Salvador until 1956, when they returned to the United States.

The Syversons then continued to work with a number of churches in the Portland area, Eastern Oregon, California and Arizona for about 20 years. Mrs. Syverson retired following the death of her husband in 1976.

She was a member of the Holgate Church of God.

Survivors include her son, David of Portland; daughters Junaita Estupinian of Boring and Minnie Carpenter of Mill City; sister Crystal Dayley of Gresham; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Holgate Church of God mission project.
