Facts and Events
In the book RAGERSVILLE, there is a listing for an Elizabeth Pershing, in the confirmation class of May 13, 1848, at the Zion's Congregation of Ragersville. She would have been the right age! There were also Peter and Christian Pershing (half brother, born 1824?) in the class. We can only speculate how Elizabeth would have met her husband John C. Karns. The Pershings were Lutherans, and the Karns were German Reformed. We know that some of the Karns family were still living in Tuscarawas County, after some of the others had migrated to Wabash County in circa 1848. It can be assumed that John C. was still living with his father in Jefferson Township. How did he meet Elizabeth, who we assume was living in her father's home in Auburn Township, near Ragersville? Elizabeth and John C. were married in Tuscarawas County in 1853, then in circa 1855-1857 joined some of the other Karns families in Wabash County. Elizabeth was another of those tragic casualties of the early pioneer days. She died at only age 33, one day after her eighth child was born! Elizabeth had descendants who married into the Urbana area families of: Pretorius, Grimm, Miller, Shultz, Stauffer, Weck, Fleck, and others. --White Creek 22:04, 15 August 2012 (EDT) Image Gallery
