CONVERSATION CUT SHORT BY DEATH- Elizabeth Jane Smith, 69 years old, a resident of St. Joseph since 1882, died suddenly of heart disease at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon while sitting in a chair at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.E. Suddenly she closed her eyes and lay back as if asleep. Mrs. Nash noticed her pallor and went to her assistance and lay her mother on the floor. She then summoned neighbors and physicians, but Mrs. Smith expired within a few minutes. Mrs. Smith was a well known member of Hundley Methodist church, having been a member twenty-four years. She was born in Decatur, Ind. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Jane Peck. She was married there in 1864 to Ransom J. Smith and they had ten children, eight of whom survive. Smith has been dead for many years. The surviving sons and daughters are: Lawrence E. Smith and Howard O. Smith, Kansas City; Curtis E. Smith, St. Joseph; Mrs. H.R. McCoy, Fort Scott, Kas.; Mrs. John W. Weiss, St. Joseph; Mrs. Frank D. Speer, St. Louis; Mrs. Harry W. Hawkins, Valley, Neb. and Mrs. Nash. Funeral services will be held at the Nash home at 7:30 o'clock tomorrow morning. Rev. S.M. Williams, pastor of Hundley church, will be in charge. Following the services the body will be taken to Amity, Mo. for burial. References
