December 20, 1933 

  Mrs. Elizabeth Owens Powell passedaway Sunday morning at 12:40 at the home of her son, Edd Powell, of Arthur, TN, at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 17 days.  
 She was born near Arthur, TN, on 1/1/1863, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Owens.  She professed her faith in Christ at an early age, and lived a pure Christian life.
  She married Wm.  H. Powell some fifty years ago, and to this union were born four children, namely Oscar, Edd, Grover, and Mrs. Della Carr.  Also, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Mary Underwood of Knoxville, and one brother John Hooper.
  She was known to her large host of friends as "Grandma Powell" and will be missed by all who knew her. 
 Her husband, Wm. H. Powell, departed this life six years ago, and he too was an outstanding and highly respected citizen of this community.
  Her passing reminds us that another pioneer citizen of East Tennessee has gone to her heavenly reward.
