Hi Diane. My info. shows that Peter Montague, b. ca. 1666, died in 1702 was son of Peter Montague, Jr. and Maria/Mary Doodes. He married 22 March 1693 to Elizabeth Merrie (marriage date from Ruth & Sam Sparacio), dau. Thomas Merrie (see deed below). The widow, Elizabeth (Merrie) Montague remarried 29 Dec. 1703 to Rice Curtis.

(Middlesex Co., VA Deed Bk. 2, 1694-1703, pp. 506-507) I The Subscriber doe hereby Testifie and declare and do hereby acknowledge that I have here unto lent unto MY DAUGHTER ELIZABETH MOUNTAGUE THE RELICK OF PETER MOUNTAGUE ONE NEGROE GIRLE WHICH IS NOW IN HER POSSESSION DUREING HER NATURALL LIFE AND AFTER THE DECEASE OF MY SAID Daughter I give the said Negroe girle called Moll unto MY GRANDSON PETER MOUNTAGUE with all her increase (if any) to him and his heires forever and if said Peter Mountague should dye before he comes to age of one and twenty that then the said Negroe I give UNTO HIS BROTHER THOMAS MOUNTAGUE with the Increase forever also I doe acknowledge yt: I have given a mare bigg with foole unto Peter Mountague branded TM also I give unto my Grandson Tho: Mountague on black horse branded TM as in ye margent also one black mare branded as in the margent TM and them and there Increase forever this I doe acknowledge in open Court and desire it may be committed to record dated March the first 1702/3. /s/ THO: MERRIE Att Court held for County of Middlesex the first day of March 1702 Then personally appeared THOMAS MERRIE above named acknowledged the above Deed in open Court and the same was admitted to record by Order of Court. (Source: Middlesex County, Virginia Deed Abstracts 1694-1703, The Antient Press, Ruth & Sam Sparacio)

Peter & Elizabeth (Merrie) Montague had two children:

1. Thomas Montague b. ca. 1695, d. 1756, m. (1) Grace Nicholson, 21 Dec. 1716, (dau. William Nicholson and Grace Lewis), and (2) Penelope Cheney Warwick, 31 Aug. 1727 (dau. Thomas Warwick and Mary Cheyney).

2. Peter Montague, b. ca. 1796, d. after 1750, m. 19 Aug. 1725 to Elizabeth Merry (Christ Church Parish Register). (I have seen some information stating that they were cousins but I’ve not investigated this.)

Although I can find the 1725 marriage of the second Peter M. to the second Elizabeth Merry in the Christ Church Parish Register, I have not found the marriage in 1693 of his father and mother - Peter b. 1666 and Elizabeth Merrie. So this remains confused in my mind.

The Peter Montague who was poisoned by the slave Eve was married to Anthorit Thomas. He was b. 28 March 1718, Middlesex Co., d. 27 Dec. 1745, Orange Co., son of Thomas Montague and Grace Nicholson mentioned above. After his death his widow Anthorit m. Capt. Reuben Daniel 1746 in Orange Co.

This is all very confusing but hope it helps some. Any corrections and additions to the above will be appreciated.
