Elizabeth Mead was baptised on 2nd February 1823 at Flamstead in Hertfordshire, daughter of an agricultural labourer called Thomas Mead and his wife Mary. Elizabeth appears in the 1841 census living with her parents and siblings at Little Wood End in Flamstead.

On 25th October 1845, aged 22, Elizabeth married John Dean at Great Gaddesden, just west of Flamstead. They went on to have three children together at Great Gaddesden between 1846 and 1854. The 1851 and 1861 censuses each find Elizabeth and John living on Gaddesden Row in Great Gaddesden, with Elizabeth working as a straw plaiter and John as an agricultural labourer.

The 1871, 1881, and 1891 censuses all find Elizabeth and John living at Bunker's Cottages in Great Gaddesden.

Elizabeth died in 1895, aged 72. John survived her by about twelve years.
