Will Transcript

In the name of God Amen. I Elizabeth Critzer of the County of Harrison and State of Virginia being perfectly in my right mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say.
First and principally, I commit my soul into the hand of Almighty God and my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the directions of my surviving friends.
2nd. I will and bequeath that my debts and funeral charges shall be paid by my executors herein after named.
3rd. I will and bequeath that George Slocum and my [grand] daughter Mary M. Slocum his wife shall have all my intrusts or effects in this world both real and personal to hold or enjoy forever as they see proper, except two beds and bedding, which I will and bequeath to Lucrecy and Mary Slocum, daughters of George [&] Mary M. Slocum.
Also I except one dun? mare which I will & bequeath to Elizabeth Slocum daughter of said George & Mary M. Slocum.
Lastly I do hereby appoint, constitute and ordain George Slocum executor of this my last will and testament, did allowing all and every other will or wills heretofore made by me, and ratifying this and no other as my last will and testament.
In Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 30th day of January 1858

Signed, Sealed published and delivered by Elizabeth Critzer as and for her last will and testament in the presents and hearing of us who at her request subscribed our names as witnesses

Virginia. Harrison County Court April 12th 1858.
The last will & testament of Eizabeth Critzer dec'd was this day produced in open Court & proven by the oaths of Abel W. Shinn & Amos Sees two subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded.

Note: Mary M. Slocum named as Elizabeth's "daughter" is actually her grand daughter, daughter of Elizabeth's son John Critzer.
